Exhibition
Today’s world is marked by the erosion of liberties. Vanja Mervič's video installation State of Liberty questions the mythicization of freedom and its role in today's world. The artist explores how we perceive freedom, focusing on its most famous symbol – the Statue of Liberty in New York. What is the relationship between the symbol and what it symbolizes? Is the state of freedom also expressed in its visual representation?
Vanja Mervič (1973) is a painter and intermedia artist. He graduated from the Accademia di Brera in Milan and completed his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. He lives and works in Nova Gorica.
