Carinarnica
Rethinking Liminality
What is Carinarnica
Carinarnica is a cultural hub and artistic meeting point located in an abandoned border checkpoint between Slovenia and Italy, connecting the twin towns of Nova Gorica and Gorizia. Once a place of division and control by border police, it has since been transformed into a space for creative and communal exploration. This transformation began as part of a project by artists Anja Medved and Nadja Velušček, who sought to rediscover the shared memories of the inhabitants of these two towns—communities living side by side yet in parallel realities.
Since 2016, Carinarnica has been managed by the Goriška Humanist Association, which uses the space as both a speculative and practical platform to explore and rethink concepts of liminality and cross-border existence. Tatjana Plahuta: OBRAČUN
Exhibition OBRAČUN where the star of the show is the receipt—that piece of paper we encounter at every turn and usually just crumple up and throw away. A receipt is a document of purchase, a companion to consumption, and a small reminder that nothing comes for free.
The opening of the exhibition will be accompanied by a talk by philosopher Peter Mlakar.
